It was clear that I needed to install Saltio floor tiles immediately. Shortly before our first restaurant opened, I realized the cement floor looked worn and beaten from all the construction. Thank you, unnamed counter man from the City of LA Department of Building and Safety, for helping me get my plans in shape. I truly wish I could remember his name, but there is little doubt that, without his patient assistance, I would not have received those approvals in time. The Más® had the building and inspections permits required before opening for business. He had more patience than perhaps I deserved, but after 6 hours of sitting in the corner making corrections and implementing his suggestions (then re-submitting those improvements for his review), my plans got the purple stamp of approval. The gentleman behind the counter took one look, sighed, and began to explain how the plans were lacking. The counter at the City of LA Department of Building and Safety can be a scary place, and when I showed up with my plans for the restaurant (as tiny as it was to be) on a few sheets of paper, it was clear these were not typical of the plans they were used to seeing.

I knew how to run a restaurant, but building one from scratch was a lesson I had yet to learn. Thanks to David and his co-workers at LA County Health Department. They went above and beyond to help me get the little place ready, and with just a few minor corrections, I had the permit in hand.
David and his team agreed to visit the restaurant the following day, to confirm that it was ready. They pressed me about different aspects of the business, to make sure I knew how to operate a restaurant. However, David and several of his co-workers discussed the plans with me for over an hour. I was so nervous walking into the Health Department to get the license, I felt that I had screwed up and that there was no way I could get the plans reviewed and approved in time. With only one week before the Grand Opening, any delay could have been fatal… I was running out of money. Had I known of this requirement, I would have presented the approved plans weeks in advance of our Opening Day. I learned that, even for such a tiny location, the plans would have to be reviewed and approved by the Health Department as well. The brand-new Wolf Broiler and Griddle arrived the next day.Īdmiring the completed cooking line, I could not help but notice how virtually everything in the restaurant was the result of friends and family helping me get all the pieces for my little dream. It was precisely what I wanted, and at a time when I really needed it. Sylvia walked into the still-under-construction restaurant and asked me if she could buy those pieces of equipment for me. In anticipation of opening the very first Poquito Más® restaurant, I felt the Broiler and the Griddle were the most important pieces of restaurant equipment, and I wanted them to be new. She was the first customer at the Original Más™ and is first in line when we open a new Poquito Más.® She gave me a great view of how a business should be run. I worked for her family restaurant business in my early years out of high school. Represented by Burgess, the yacht can be chartered for $210,000 per week (excluding expenses) in the low months and $238,000 (excluding expenses) in the high months.Sylvia is like a second mother to me. This winter, the yacht will be cruising the Caribbean. The Jacuzzi features a swim-up bar on one side and a soaking space on the other.įor those interested in water play, Muchos Mas comes with a 32-foot Intrepid tender, a couple of Sea-Doo personal watercraft, stand-up paddleboards, a wakeboard, snorkeling and fishing gear, towables, and all the goods for a beach party. In addition to sunning, lounging, and entertainment spaces on the bridge and main decks, the sundeck offers up a bar, barbecue, day head sun pads, shade, and two misting systems to cool things down.
The superyacht accommodates 11 guests in five staterooms, including the master suite that features a skylight that looks up through the forward Jacuzzi. Launched in 2016 by Canadian shipyard Crescent Custom Yachts, the 144-foot Muchos Mas sports a metallic hull on the outside and neutral fabrics, wood, and stone on the inside.
